ToleranceCustomer's Drawing Request
ASTM A48 Class 35 grey-iron sand castings can be requested for custom auto-machinery components. OEM/ODM service allows the dimensions and tolerance requirements to follow the customer's drawing, with 100% inspection included in the quality-control direction.
Identify Class 35 in the material requirement
Name the selected grey-iron designation clearly when defining the component. Ductile iron is another available material direction, but a ductile-iron request needs its own grade selection. Keeping the material requirement explicit helps the casting discussion follow the intended iron type throughout design review and acceptance of the finished part.
Use one drawing to define the custom geometry
Custom sizes should be connected to the actual auto-machinery assembly. Show the dimensions that control the component's fit and assign the required tolerances to those areas. Keep the accepted drawing revision with the part requirement so changes in size or geometry can be considered consistently when the casting scope is agreed.
Inspect against the component you intend to accept
The 100% inspection requirement should refer to the agreed material and dimensional criteria. Establish which dimensions and conditions define acceptance for the selected casting. If ISO9001 documentation is required by purchasing, confirm its applicable holder and scope in addition to the component's ASTM material designation.
- Material identity
- ASTM A48 Class 35 grey iron, or a separately selected ductile-iron grade.
- Dimensional identity
- Customer drawing with the custom size, geometry and tolerance allocation.
- Order identity
- The intended auto-machinery component and the quantity required.
A clear material designation and drawing give the OEM/ODM request a practical starting point. Agree those details together with inspection acceptance so the sand-cast component can be evaluated as the part required for the machinery assembly.
