CUSTOM MANUFACTURING · PROJECT REVIEW
Custom Metal Finger Links for Robotic Grippers
A robotic finger link must move and locate correctly in its mechanism. Relia reviews drawing-based machining and finishing around pivot centres, slots and contact features, with the material and movement checks defined for your gripper.

RELIA · PRODUCT AND MANUFACTURING SUPPORT
Define the link inside the mechanism
Relia's automation-link reference includes milling, turning, grinding and wire EDM, with selected machining fields of ±0.005–0.01 mm and an inspection report available. Relia ties the proposed operations to the actual pivots, clearances and material choice. Your team can therefore focus close tolerances on the features that control the gripper rather than applying them to every surface.
| Your requirement | Relia product and service scope |
|---|---|
| Routes | CNC milling/turning, grinding and wire EDM |
| Precision reference | ±0.005–0.01 mm on selected machining requirements |
| Files | STEP/STP, IGS, XT, DXF, DWG, PDF or sample |
| Acceptance focus | Pivot centres, fits, clearance and contact geometry |
02 · FINISHED GEOMETRY
Keep joint fits and narrow features explicit
- Joint geometry
- Mark pivot bores, narrow slots and thin features.
- Finished fit
- Define datums and clearances for the mechanism.
Mark pivot bores, slot widths and thin features on the drawing. Their datums and finished condition guide the machining discussion and the acceptance checks.
Technical notes
Review machining access, thin sections and burr removal around small holes or slots. Aluminium, stainless steel and other listed materials offer different mass and wear trade-offs. Surface finishing must preserve pivot fit and avoid coating build-up on the controlled interfaces.

MANUFACTURING ROUTE · FEATURES AND CONTROL
Machine the Motion Features From Functional Datums
The manufacturing plan starts from the pivot centres, bearing or pin fits and the surface that contacts the workpiece. Relia's route review assigns milling or turning to accessible geometry and considers grinding or wire EDM where the specified feature needs it. Small holes and slots need controlled burr removal; finish or coating must preserve their working size. Inspecting centre distance, thickness and interface relationships makes the sample useful for mechanism assembly and movement checks.

04 · MATERIAL
Select material and finish around the fit
- Material condition
- Specify the alloy and supplied state.
- Surface effect
- Keep treatment allowances visible at pivot and sliding fits.
Share the exact alloy, supplied condition and any surface treatment. Keep finish effects at the pivot and sliding interfaces visible in the same requirement.

05 · APPROVAL
Validate movement in the defined assembly
The reference lists inspection before shipment with a report available. Select the dimensions that establish motion: centre distance, bore fit, thickness and relevant surface relationship. Trial-fit links as a mechanism where required; dimensional accuracy alone does not establish complete gripper payload or cycle life.
06 · VARIANT CONTROL
Keep similar links identifiable
- Variant identity
- Give different link arrangements separate drawing references.
- Repeat approval
- Retain the accepted revision and any approved deviation.
Different link lengths or hole arrangements need distinct drawing references. Retain the approved revision and any accepted deviation for each variant before repeat orders.

07 · SUPPLY PACKAGE
Quote the link as a finished component
Make the material, operations, finish and records visible in the quotation. Clarify any pins, fasteners or adjoining components that are expressly included.
Technical notes
Define pivot spacing, pin or bearing fit, gripping envelope and contact surfaces. Add the moving mass and operating environment where they affect material choice. A link that matches the outline may still change gripper motion if its pivot centres or end-stop surfaces are misplaced.
