ToleranceCustomer's Drawing Request
Grey-iron sand castings can be requested for machine-tool and auto-machinery components under an OEM/ODM requirement. ASTM A48 Class 20 is a material direction, with custom sizes and dimensional tolerances defined by the customer's drawing.
Select the iron type for the component
Grey iron and ductile iron are both available inquiry directions. Identify the required material designation clearly, including ASTM A48 Class 20 when that is the grey-iron requirement. A ductile-iron request needs its own selected grade and acceptance basis, so the two material directions remain distinct throughout the order.
Make the drawing the dimensional reference
Custom sizing allows the casting brief to follow the actual machine component. Include the geometry and dimensions that matter to the assembly, and mark their tolerances explicitly. If any areas require additional processing after casting, state that scope for agreement alongside the finished dimensions rather than assuming it from the machine-tool application.
Connect inspection to the agreed casting
Quality control includes 100% inspection, with tolerance requirements following the customer drawing. Define the dimensions and material acceptance to be checked for the selected component. Where ISO9001 documents are part of purchasing approval, confirm the applicable holder and scope separately from the part's ASTM material designation.
- Name the selected grey-iron or ductile-iron grade.
- Identify the machine-tool or auto-machinery component being developed.
- Provide the cast geometry and required finished dimensions.
- Allocate tolerances to the dimensions used for assembly acceptance.
- Agree inspection requirements and the intended order quantity.
This gives the sand-casting request a defined material and dimensional basis. It also lets the OEM/ODM discussion focus on the component that will be accepted for the actual machinery assembly.
