Custom alloy-steel precision parts use the investment/lost-wax casting direction, with CT4–CT8 casting-tolerance and ±0.02 mm machining-tolerance references. The actual component, material and operation sequence should establish where each reference applies and the finished condition required for the part.
Alloy-steel request and broader material work
Broader material directions cover stainless steel, steel, brass, copper, aluminum, iron and plastic. Define the actual material designation and geometry for the component. Select its manufacturing route from investment casting, sand casting, machining, welding and forging as appropriate to that material and the required part, keeping the component function central to the choice.
Broaching through tapping and the Wire inquiry
Machining options include broaching, drilling, milling, turning, tapping and a Wire operation to define for the actual request. Identify which operations and areas are needed on the chosen geometry. Work stages cover molds, casting, deburring, machining and surface treatment; connect the selected stages to the finished interfaces that the component needs.
CT4–CT8 versus the machining reference
Assign the casting-tolerance requirements to the applicable cast dimensions and the ±0.02 mm reference to the actual machining scope. Agree their process stages and measurement acceptance for the chosen material and geometry. These separate requirements should identify what is inspected before the finished interfaces are accepted for the part's intended function.
Material-appropriate finishes and reference families
Polishing, passivating and sandblasting are finish choices, alongside zinc plating and black oxide. Select the actual treatment and areas suitable for the component material. Reference families include ISO, GB, DIN, JIS, ANSI, BSW, ASTM, ASME, BS, API and EN. Define the applicable material, dimension and surface requirements within that reference scope and agree the inspection acceptance for the selected work.
