Large/heavy stainless-steel part inquiries combine lost-wax investment casting with CNC machining. Broader work directions cover stainless steel, steel, brass, copper, aluminum, iron and plastic, with investment/sand casting, machining, welding or forging selected for the actual material and geometry. Moulds, casting, deburring, machining and surface treatment provide further work-scope directions.
Cast geometry versus CNC dimensions
For this large/heavy part inquiry, CT4–CT8 is the casting-tolerance reference and ±0.02 mm is the machining-tolerance reference. Identify the dimensions to which each applies on the selected component. Connect the actual grade, geometry and important interfaces to the cast/CNC acceptance plan so both references address a defined manufacturing requirement.
Broaching through wire-related work
The machining directions span broaching, drilling, milling, turning, tapping and wire-related work. Define the exact wire operation for the component, then assign the selected methods to the relevant geometry and surfaces. The chosen casting or other manufacturing route should be considered with that machining content and the required finished dimensions.
Surface choices for the large/heavy component
Polishing, passivating, sandblasting, zinc plating and black oxide are finish directions for the actual material and required areas. Identify the surfaces that matter for fit, appearance or operation and agree their acceptance criteria. This allows the finish scope to be discussed with the component's geometry, grade and selected manufacturing process.
Eleven standards in the part definition
The large/heavy component's standard references are ISO, GB, DIN, JIS, ANSI, BSW, ASTM, ASME, BS, API and EN. Select the actual designation with the grade, dimensional plan and inspection requirements. Its function, interfaces and operating duty should complete the definition before the casting/CNC scope is finalized.
